So as I'd mentioned yesterday, =Bakanekonei was reported for art theft here on DA for posting a colored commission she had done. In true kneejerk reaction, the DA admins removed her image and now she has to jump through hoops to get it restored to her gallery.
Let that sink in for a minute.
She was paid to color a piece of art by the owner of the lineart, and DA punishes her for art theft.
It gets better. I went to read her journal this morning to see what new things had been said ( [link] ) and I'll be damned if there aren't people posting that honestly believe she's guilty of art theft.
What. The. Fuck?
DA is full of members like *Vampirella87 who have galleries full of traced art (yes, traced, not referenced) that DA won't remove, yet a colorist is considered an art thief simply because they weren't told who the lineartist was when they were commissioned?
How in the hell can coloring lineart (that you were paid to do by the owner of the artwork no less) be considered art theft on DA, while tracing is allowed as some kind of actual art form? What inbred, mouth-breathing, window-licking, fucktard came up with this backwater logic?
This kind of shit really makes me want to leave DA. And honestly, if I had the free time right now to set up a gallery somewhere else, I would. After I'm finished with my current gigs, I'm definitely going to be looking for somewhere else to post my colors. I'm not going to remain on a site that punishes professional artists that post their freelance work while tracers are free to post up any copyrighted material they want.

As for leaving dA, or choosing not to share your work with us, that would be unfortunate. I can't stop you, by any means, but I really do urge you to reconsider.

Most of us on here make a living from art in one form or another so it seems stupid that you can have stuff removed without warning or chance to explain who owns it.
Bonkers!

I'm open for commissions! Please contact me by note or e-mail!
DA should send you a note inquiring about the piece and give you a time frame of a week to reply instead of just assuming that the report is valid and yanking it. I say a week just to give a little leeway to the people that don't check their site every day.
Hell, in the past I had art moved in my gallery. It was a short story I wrote, a friend drew, and I colored. Should have been in the original comics. I got a little note saying it was moved to fanart. WTH? Fanart of my own creation. I just laughed about it and removed it.
